Costume Contest Contest Rules All anime-related costumes are allowed to enter. As this is a costume contest, and not a true cosplay, it is not necessary to perform a skit to participate in the contest. As entertaining as skits are, even if you do not have one prepared, you are encouraged to walk across the stage area and show off your costume. However, if you are planning a skit, please keep the following in mind: 1. All skits must be reviewed by JAFAX staff before being allowed into the costume contest. Time and location of review will be announced at the event. 2. Anyone who attempts a skit that has not been approved by JAFAX staff will be disqualified from the contest, and removed from the stage by Security. 3. Because of our venue’s strict weapons policy, fighting and use of weapons during a skit is strongly discouraged. Questions regarding this policy can be covered during the skit review. 4. Please keep skit contents at or below a PG-13 level to uphold our “family-friendly” atmosphere. This year’s contest will again be held in the Kirkhof Center, in the same room as last year. Due to the large number of entries we’ve had in recent years and the limited amount of time we have the facilities, we will be limiting the number of entries to a total of 50, including skits. We will also be changing our award system, making a Best Costume and Best Skit category, plus the Judge’s Choice awards. We hope this system will be fairer to the contestants and easier on the judges. If you have any questions regarding the contest, GVSU’s weapons policy, or acceptability of your particular skit, please contact info@jafax.org, or check our forum to see if your question has already been covered. |
